Mercanti di Liquore

I Mercanti di Liquore nascono a Monza a metà degli anni `90, quando tre musicisti che già militavano insieme nel gruppo rock “ZOO” decidono di dar vita ad una formazione orientata verso la musica acustica.
Il loro repertorio è costituito da composizioni originali e da rivisitazioni di alcune tra le più belle canzoni di Fabrizio De André e di altri autori significativi nel panorama della musica italiana.
I Mercanti di Liquore si caratterizzano per l’estro e l’originalità degli arrangiamenti personalizzando l’interpretazione dei brani tanto da essere definiti dalla critica specializzata un vero e proprio “power-folk trio”, per il personale approccio alla musica d’autore.Negli ultimi anni i Mercanti di Liquore si sono esibiti in numerosissimi concerti maturando e consolidando una originale consistenza stilistica che li ha portati a valicare i confini regionali e a proporre la loro musica nelle più importanti manifestazioni musicali in tutta l’Italia e ad essere presenti a numerose trasmissioni radiofoniche sulle reti nazionali.
Un percorso professionale che ha portato la formazione a partecipare alla grande kermesse musicale “Faber, amico fragile” realizzata il 12 marzo 2000 al Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova dall’Associazione Culturale Fabrizio De André e alla quale hanno partecipato i più importanti artisti italiani.

Il primo CD del gruppo: “Mai Paura” (Musica Mezzanima-Samsara) che oltre ai brani originali del trio contiene alcune tra le indimenticabili ballate di Fabrizio De André, esce nel maggio del 1999. L’album ottiene ottime recensioni su tutta la stampa ed entra in distribuzione nazionale nel catalogo IRD. Il brano “Mai paura” è stato selezionato per la compilation “Caterpillar” Volume 3 (CGD East West) del programma radiofonico Caterpillar (Radio - Rai 2) pubblicato nel maggio 2000.
Nel giugno 2000 i Mercanti pubblicano un singolo contenente l’interpretazione di “Geordie”, proposta al Carlo Felice di Genova, una nuova versione di “Mai paura” e un brano inedito (Canzonetta), distribuito dalla Venus.

Nello stesso anno i Mercanti di Liquore producono e propongono in diversi teatri italiani lo spettacolo “Gente Invisibile”: omaggio a Fabrizio De André e a tutti quelli che hanno raccontato storie sbagliate. Le emozioni e la follia di questa gente invisibile sono raccontate attraverso le canzoni dei cantautori che hanno fatto la storia della musica italiana come De André, Tenco, Ciampi, Lolli, Endrigo, e da frammenti letterari e poetici di Bukowski, Pasolini, Vian, interpretati da attori “in scena” e recitati “virtualmente”, attraverso video proiezioni.

Il 25 aprile 2001 i Mercanti di Liquore partecipano alla manifestazione “Appunti Partigiani”, ideata da Marco Paolini, a cui aderiscono le più prestigiose figure della musica e della cultura italiana.

Nell’agosto del 2001 il gruppo incide il brano “Per Sport”, adottata come sigla dalla trasmissione radiofonica “Cater-Sport” (Radio - Rai 2).

Dopo diversi mesi di lavorazione, nel Marzo 2002
esce il nuovo cd, intitolato “La musica dei poveri”(Mezzanima/Bloom).
Il lavoro contiene quasi esclusivamente composizioni originali e testimonia la crescita stilistica del gruppo.
Come si può intuire dal titolo, i 14 brani del disco raccontano un’umanità perdente ma orgogliosa, capace di opporre all’arroganza dei vincitori una disobbedienza convinta e caparbia, o quantomeno una propria, differente, visione delle cose.
La musica rimane orientata verso la ricerca di un’essenzialità compositiva a metà strada tra le grandi suggestioni della melodia popolare e una ritmica prepotente e moderna.
L’album vede inoltre la partecipazione di numerosi musicisti ospiti, chiamati dal gruppo ad arricchire le sonorità di alcuni brani.

L’inizio del 2003 vede i Mercanti di Liquore impegnati in una singolare iniziativa: il “Case del Popolo Tour”. Questo tour ha per i tre musicisti monzesi il significato di non accodarsi ai soliti cliché di promozione e divulgazione del mercato discografico, cercando al contrario (per l’ennesima volta) di trovare un proprio personale percorso.
Le “Case del Popolo” aquistano così un valore simbolico e culturale in quanto contrapposte ai soliti luoghi normalmente adibiti alla musica dal vivo. Un tour del genere oltre a presentarli in modo coerente e semplice darà loro nuovi spunti per continuare a raccontare le loro storie e pensare alla loro musica in assoluta autonomia, ben lontani dalle solite e banalizzanti strategie di vendita e di profitto.

Nell’aprile 2003 debutta “Song n.32 (Concerto variabile)” uno spettacolo che vede protagonisti i Mercanti di Liquore e Marco Paolini.
Un viaggio che, utilizzando la forma canzone, raccoglie ed amplifica suggestioni a proposito di acqua, guerra e disobbedienze preziose.
